Cardinality Indicator

In the Members tab, a Cardinality indicator is checked "On" if the corresponding member element is in the route's cardinal direction.

If an Element is increasing in measure value from its Start Node to its End Node in the same direction as the increasing measure of the Route from its Start, the box will be checked.

The Reverse Allowed flag must be selected as part of the Group Type configuration in order for non-cardinal members to be allowed.

Cardinality Example

In the example above, Route 93 North travels from left to right, beginning at mile point 24 and running to mile point 30.5. It traverses three datums – as shown in the Route Definition data on the bottom right. Notice that Route 93N traverses datum 202101 in the opposite direction of the datum. The datum starts at node 1390 and runs to node 101 – whereas the route does the opposite.

The cardinality of the route in relation to the datum is -1, whereas the route runs in the same direction as the datum on the other two datums – indicated by a cardinality value of 1.
